For most of my life, I have been fighting an inner battle without even realizing it. On the outside, I looked unstoppable. Ambitious, traveling the world and loving my career as a corporate trainer. When I set my mind to something, I made it happen. Big decisions like emigrating or new career opportunities never scared me.
But inside, I would get lost in insignificant details, overthinking for hours. How did others perceive what I had said or done? Unconsciously, I was always scanning for approval and adjusting myself to fit imagined expectations. I over performed and gave endlessly, until I hit a wall and couldnât go on. Thatâs when I realized that the very qualities I had always been praised for, were the ones that were quietly destroying me.
I started the journey of breaking free from these people-pleasing patterns. I tried all the usual advice: set more boundaries, say no more often, carve out more me-time. It helped briefly, but it also felt heavy, as if I was constantly fighting against myself.
On one hand, I craved more space and the freedom to speak my truth.
On the other, I was terrified of being rejected if I did.
That inner conflict kept pulling me back into the same old patterns.
After years of being coached, researching and experimenting, I finally found the missing key. So far, I had only been treating the symptoms. But treating symptoms is useless, without addressing the root cause: the fear thatâs driving it all.
Letting go of your fear is non-negotiable if you want to break free from people-pleasing in a way that actually lasts.
